Frequently loved by celebrities and diplomats, Akashi is an exclusive epicurean concept which is distinctly different from other sushi and noodle bars or casual Japanese dining concepts.
'Sushi starts from S$33.80 for a 10-piece set comprising ocean-fresh slivers of the likes of yellowtail, sweet shrimp and tuna, and goes up to S$76.80 for a set of 18 delicious morsels. Regulars who grew up on a steady diet of Akashi’s offerings will appreciate the Reverse California Roll (S$14.80), with its lavish crown of flying fish roe. More decadent treats include Bafun Uni Sushi (S$52.80 for three pieces) and Aburi Foie Gras with Uni (S$30.80 for three).'

'Even the non-fish appetizers are worth noting, especially the warm salted ginko nuts, vegetable tempura and the grilled sweet potato skewers. Goh excels at making the simplest slabs of fresh fish, like the fatty tuna sashimi imported four times a week from Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market, taste like a sensuous experience one ought to have in the utmost privacy.'
'My favourites are the grilled King prawns with miso paste and kurobuta pork with goma sauce. The King prawns are generously topped with miso paste, which gives it an earthy flavour tinged with a slight sweetness. You also have to try the kurobuta pork, which is perfectly seared and drizzled with goma sauce.'
