'The flavoured rice on its own was already very appetising and it complemented the duck very well. The most surprising item was the tau pok that absorbed a lot of the gravy. You could say that every bite was bursting with flavour. The amount of vegetables was also relatively generous and the produce was fairly fresh.'

Good Balance of Flavour
'Now, this is exactly my kind of milk tea – it’s milky, creamy, and sweet. The fragrance of the tea isn’t so strong in this drink but rather, it is more mellow and comes as an afterthought. I felt that San Chen’s bubble milk tea is nicer than that of Gong Cha or Koi’s because it’s thicker in terms of the milk content and tea fragrance.'

'Yu Kee has made great strides over the decades as a premier seller of duck-rice in the food landscape of Singapore. It has recently expanded the range of its products to include the brands 'XO Minced Pork Noodle', 'Shi Jia' and 'Suka Ramai'. However, the duck rice remains its signature dish.'

'While their Fresh Milk with Brown Sugar Bubble ($5.00) is slightly on the sweet size, there was distinct caramelised taste, and bubbles were quite chewy and delicious too. A crowd favourite.'

Regretted not trying other dishes!

Overall, Yu Kee has shown that food in Singapore does not always have to be expensive to be yummy. Our only regret is that we did not get to taste the other dishes this time – their char siew looked quite good.'
