1. Man Man Unagi

Touted Singapore’s very first Unagi Specialty Restaurant, fall head-over-eels with Man Man Unagi. The restaurant serves up premium grilled eel, dipped in a vault of addictive Japanese tare (soy sauce mixed with mirin and sugar).

A classic unagi dish would have to be none other than their Hitsumabushi ($34).

Hitsumabushi ($34)

Savour the perfect unagi bento with a generous amount of sliced eel meat lain over plump Japanese white rice and a side of pickles, spring onion, seaweed, wasabi, and broth. A simple yet luscious combination.

For the meat lovers our there, the unagi-lovin’ house will surely surprise you with their Roast Beef selection. Take it from me, it’s equally as delightful as their signature. The unagi specialty restaurant’s BBQ Beef with Unagi ($30.50) brings you the best of both worlds, with soft unagi and springy beef all in one dish.

2. Akashi

Dive into an exclusive epicurean dining concept with Akashi Japanese Restaurant. If you’re a major fan of sashimi yet dining on a dime, Akashi’s the one for you.

To start off, Akashi’s Sashimi Platter B ($45.20) would be a pleasant sharing platter for two, or simply one ravenous individual.

Each portion is decked in freshly-sliced sashimi, from the original Salmon, to Tuna, Halibut, Amberjack and Swordfish. Seafood lovers, you’re gonna want to get a hook on this.

3. Burger & Lobster

It all started with 4 schoolmates brainstorming about opening a restaurant focusing on only two things: Burger and Lobster. Since 2011, they have since expanded across 7 countries and has garnered international recognition for the simple yet luxurious creations.

Without a doubt, the Original Lobster Roll Combo ($34) is simply irresistible. Whether it’s your first time dining with B&L or the umpteenth time, I’d like to think you can’t go wrong with this option.

Think plump, succulent chunks of lobster meat, tossed in lemon mayo, served alongside hot and cripsy chips and a refreshing salad – oh boy, I’m already drooling…

Plus, the party invitations just keep stacking as we keep our fingers crossed for Phase 3. Pre-order your B&L Combo (from $120) and savour the best of both worlds with family and friends at your next party.

5. Mui Kee Congee

Behind every bowl at Mui Kee Congee lies a heritage as rich as its flavour. Founded in 1979 in Mong Kok, Hong Kong, the clandestine store has since expanded to the shores of Singapore.  Passed down for generations, the once small shophouse produces congee packed with old school flavour.

Mui Kee’s Century Egg and Lean Meat Porridge ($9.19) is undoubtedly a familiar favourite.

Century Egg and Lean Meat Porridge ($9.19)

Their rice grains are meticulously prepared with century eggs to produce a finer texture prior to cooking. While you might find one bowl costing you more than the hawker-friendly value, this is one dish well worth its price.

Make the most out of it by using your Citi Card privileges to get that $5 off with Mui Kee Congee!

6. SBCD Korean Tofu House

Post K-drama blues? Warm up over SBCD Korean Tofu House signature soups. Following South Korea’s “soontofu” recipe, SBCD feshly produces soft, silken tofu daily and serves it in most of their dishes. The famed 10-ingredient secret recipe soup broth will wrap you in an warm, comforting embrace.

No doubt, Tonkichi’s Chicken Katsu Don Set ($20.90) is not one to be missed.

An OG in the eyes of the Japanese, the Chicken Katsu Don consists of thick chicken chops, coated in breadcrumbs and fried to perfection. Its interior is juicy and tender, whereas its crisp exterior is fried to a glistening golden brown.

This restaurant has mastered the culinary art of producing award-winning meals, which landed themeselves on Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant collection in 2019.

Who could go wrong with Chicken Tikka ($19)? Boneless chicken marinated in spices and yoghurt, grilled in tandoor, a cylindrical oven. Pop a morsel of tender chicken into your mouth and feel its flavour exude from the mixture of the yoghurt and spice.

Anglo Indian’s Chicken Dum Biryani ($23)

Famous for their delectable adaptation of the Biryani, Anglo Indian’s Chicken Dum Biryani ($23) is impressive. With Deepavali just round the corner, we’d like to think this is one to make the feast list.
